History

The house-museum of Adam Mitskevich in the town of Novogrudok is not only a biographical museum exhibition - it is also an open air museum. This is a restored nobleman's mansion of the early 19th century. The museum is included in the list of historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus.

The first attempt to set up the Adam Mitskievich Museum in Novogrudok was made in 1920. But the museum was opened for visitors only on September 11, 1938. In June 1941, it was destroyed by a German air bomb and then reconstructed in 1955. In 1990, the museum was renovated. Specialists restored the main building taking into consideration a sample of the early 19th century. An outhouse connected with the main building by an underground passage and also a barn, a well and a garden-house were built there.

The existing exposition opened on May 25, 2001.
